Sculptures made from largely natural materials

I grew up in a region where nobody built with stone or made everyday objects out of stone. My motivation to learn the techniques of sculpture came from a childhood love of boulders and the idea that there were many good things that could be made from boulders and rocks.

Soon after my beginnings in stone sculpting, I asked myself what I could do with what I had learned to create art that had something to do with me. Continuing the Roman tradition had little to do with me. So I began to think about how I could express my love of freedom and curiosity through sculpture. Making friends with the people of the Stone Age and understanding sculpture in general as jewelry opened up to me a viable way of using building materials from nature and making use of the technical means available today.

I then worked with the techniques and tools available to me on rubble and on untreated wood. I transform the materials into sculptures through minimal, seemingly primitive interventions. The fact that some of the materials in my work look natural is sometimes the result of sweaty and patient work.
