Sculptures made from largely natural materials
I grew up in a region where nobody built with stone or made everyday objects out of stone. My motivation to learn the techniques of sculpture came from a childhood love of boulders and the idea that there were many good things that could be made from boulders and rocks.
Soon after my beginnings in stone sculpting, I asked myself what I could do with what I had learned to create art that had something to do with me. Continuing the Roman tradition had little to do with me. So I began to think about how I could express my love of freedom and curiosity through sculpture. Making friends with the people of the Stone Age and understanding sculpture in general as jewelry opened up to me a viable way of using building materials from nature and making use of the technical means available today.
I then worked with the techniques and tools available to me on rubble and on untreated wood. I transform the materials into sculptures through minimal, seemingly primitive interventions.
